Kicking off the year right: The Molina Fantasy

I can't think of a better way to start off 2010 than with this amazing video that was posted on Naschy.com in honor of the late, great, Mighty Mighty Molina, Paul Naschy. I don't know if Jacinto will make it into the "In Memoriam" montage of this year's Oscars (though by God and Satan and all the devils he FUCKING SHOULD), but if not, this will do nicely instead.

Happy 2010!

I dunno if that was reeeeally cheesy or really legitimately poignant, or both, but great vid nonetheless. I also had decided to do a little Naschy thing for the New Year over at my site, just tossing in some brief 2-cents' worth reviews and such since I was kinda in "Christmas" mode when he passed away and I didn't take a lot of time to pay my 'cinematic blogger' respects to the man. So your post here is keenly on topic for me at the moment! ;) Very neat-o. Happy New Year, fellas!

I think the cheesy/legitimately poignant dichotomy is perfectly Naschy. He hit those notes in many of his films in my opinion. :) Thanks for the well wishes, and I'll go check out your Naschy respects. Happy new year!

Vicar, if Naschy didn't make TCM Remembers he won't make the Oscars, which is a double injustice. It'd be a treat to see that montage between features some night. Were you disappointed that it lacked any leap attacks?

You're spot on about the poignant cheesiness of the man's work. There's a kind of naive grandeur to it, in that Naschy made exploitation films but also strove with utter sincerity to recreate the good old gothic thrills of his youth. And let's face it: that music istself could be poignant or cheesy, or both, depending on one's taste. I found it a perfect fit.
